Baking bread

Like so many people these days, I too have started baking bread. First I just wanted to try it, to see if it's actually possible as those youtubers say. After a couple of false starts, when the sourdough started didn't feel like surviving, I have finally baked my first bread. It was disappointing. The loaf was flat and dense with awfully thick and hard crust. But it was amazing. The best bread I've baked yet. It tasted like victory, like achievement. Like I made something.

I didn't stop baking and my loaves got better and better. I was learning with each loaf, and it feels I'll be learning with every each one. These days I can bake a loaf that all of my family members actually enjoy and ask for more. I'm satisfied.

But why is it so satisfying? I always felt the need to make (or create) something. That's why I used to write songs and computer programs. Used to. I don't enjoy these much anymore. But, unconsciously, I needed to create something. And it had to be somewhat useful, too. I only realised this after couple of loaves baked.

I might write about bread more in another post. Let's see how it goes.
